Bedside-to-bench, laboratory-to-treatment philosophy.
We carry out research in several different types of “lab.” In our physical lab, with microscopes and scientists, Dr. Rowe followed a hunch that led to the creation of a new therapy for secondary-progressive MS patients, who had no other options and no available drugs. In more than ten years, that therapy has helped hundreds of patients defy the expected prognosis for this ravaging disease, and stabilize their quality of life.
We also carry out research in the “virtual lab” of our computerized medical records. RNI studies data on its entire patient population to seek out connections between apparently-unrelated disorders. One of our most significant discoveries was the connection between migraine headaches and sleep disorders, and further research has begun to reveal the underlying mechanisms.
Our Foundation Conducts Research into Neurological Conditions.
The MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)3) organization which supports our research into neurological conditions. Our investigators have over 30 years of medical expertise and research experience in clinical and basic sciences. MANRF is an independently-owned research center that is involved in community services promoting neurological healthcare. The Research Foundation allows us to conduct research into multiple sclerosis, sleep, headache, Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders.
We are dedicated to contributing to individual and public welfare by promoting and implementing basic and clinical research to understand neurological diseases and to develop treatments and provide educational opportunities within our community.
It is essential that our research foundation is closely connected to a clinical care delivery organization. With a bedside-to-bench, laboratory-to-treatment philosophy, our foundation has a patient-centered focus for its research efforts.
Likewise, a clinical care delivery organization must be passionate about research, because that is where the cures are derived. A seamless interaction between highly trained physicians utilizing all the knowns and givens in their areas of expertise and a research staff doing basic, as well as clinical research in these areas, is crucial for the correct diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurological conditions.
